A neighbor contacted deputies at the Porterville substation on Monday that her dog had gone missing while she was out Saturday morning. She suspected a neighbor, 23-year-old Modesto Ramos, in the disappearance.
Deputies investigated and met with Ramos, who told them “he became angry at the victim’s dog for urinating on his yard and vehicle,” according to the sheriff’s office.
He then shot and killed the dog and buried the carcass.
While collecting evidence, deputies recovered an AK-47 and an AR-15 from Ramos’ home.
Ramos was charged with animal cruelty causing death, illegal weapons possession, and negligent discharge of firearm, according to the sheriff’s office.
